Pulling into the harbour, step ashore for a stroll around the picturesque ‘Kralendijk’ city.
If you prefer to stay on the yacht and the water, then head for Lac Bay. This shallow lagoon is 8km.sq and lies on the southeastern side of Bonaire. There’s a mangrove forest here with an abundance of fish, shellfish, birds and turtles, and on the eastern edge the coral reef is an amazing spot for snorkeling.
On the way, stop to enjoy the view of the salt dunes and pink salt lakes. For a more detailed inspection, visit the salt pier which is 10 minutes’ drive from the port. Here you can see salt pillars fully encrusted with sponges and corals, and it’s another great place to snorkel or scuba dive. There’s also a shipwreck here of the Kilma Hooker, which sank in 1984.
End the day at one of Bonaire’s fine restaurants.
