Bio

As an Exterior Designer at Camper & Nicholsons, Sebastiano Canto brings nearly ten years of experience in yacht design, combining a strong creative vision with an in-depth understanding of the design-to-build process. His approach is centred around understanding each client's vision and translating it into bespoke yacht designs that balance elegance, functionality, and technical precision.

Specialising in exterior design and general arrangement, Sebastiano believes that a well-defined design brief is the foundation of a successful project. From there, he develops designs that are sleek and refined, while retaining a timeless character and responding closely to the individual wishes of each client.

Background

Sebastiano holds a Bachelor's degree in Product Design from the University of Genoa and a Master's degree in Yacht Design, completed through the joint programme between the University of Genoa and Politecnico di Milano.

Since beginning his career in the yachting industry in 2017, he has developed a comprehensive understanding of the journey from initial concept through to construction. His experience working closely with both design and production teams has given him a valuable ability to connect creative intent with the practical realities of yacht building.

Fluent in Italian and English, Sebastiano brings an international perspective to his work and a particular appreciation for the relationship between design, the sea, and the lifestyle that surrounds yachting.

Experience

Sebastiano's professional career includes significant experience at Perini Navi, where he worked as part of the Centro Stile team and collaborated closely with the Production Department. This experience gave him first-hand insight into the transformation of design concepts and drawings into fully realised yachts, strengthening his understanding of the relationship between design and construction.

He subsequently joined Vitruvius Yachts, the renowned London-based design studio founded by Philippe Briand. Working in an international environment, Sebastiano contributed to a wide range of projects across both the sailing and motor yacht sectors, further developing his design expertise and broadening his understanding of different yacht typologies and client requirements.

Today, Sebastiano brings this combination of creative design expertise and practical shipyard experience to Camper & Nicholsons, with a particular focus on exterior design and general arrangement. His approach is highly client-focused and detail-oriented, with the aim of creating yachts that are both technically considered and visually distinctive.

Outside of work, sailing has been Sebastiano's greatest passion since the age of six. His experience has evolved from dinghy sailing to offshore regattas, giving him a deep personal connection to the sea and the yachts he designs. He also enjoys travelling, particularly by road, appreciating the freedom and sense of adventure that comes with discovering new places.
