Andrea Chiavacci

Bio

As New Build Project Manager at Camper & Nicholsons, Andrea Chiavacci brings more than twenty years of experience in the maritime industry, combining a strong engineering background with extensive expertise in shipbuilding, technical project delivery, and multidisciplinary team leadership. Having worked across megayachts, cruise ships, and naval vessels, he has developed a comprehensive understanding of the technical and operational complexities involved in delivering sophisticated vessels.

With a strong focus on engineering excellence, quality, and performance, Andrea is committed to delivering projects that meet the highest standards while balancing technical requirements, schedules, budgets, and client expectations. His structured approach and ability to develop practical solutions to complex challenges support the successful execution of demanding new-build projects.

Background

Andrea holds a degree in Automation Engineering from the University of Genoa, complemented by an Electronics Technical Diploma from ITIS G. Ferraris. He also completed naval training as a Reserve Officer at the Naval Academy and participated in Fincantieri's internal Project Management Training Programme.

His technical foundation in electrical systems and automation has been central to his career progression, providing the expertise needed to manage increasingly complex engineering and shipbuilding projects. Over the years, he has expanded his responsibilities from specialist technical roles to senior project management, developing skills in engineering integration, project planning, cost control, process optimisation, and performance monitoring.

Andrea is a native Italian speaker and has professional working proficiency in English.

Experience

Andrea began his career in electronics and software design at TIMM S.r.l., before progressing to leadership positions in electrical engineering at Barsanti Macchine S.p.A. and Elettrotecnica Bertani S.r.l. In 2007, he joined Fincantieri, where he spent more than a decade in increasingly senior roles, including Head of Electrical, Automation & Entertainment, Head of Electrical Outfitting, and Combat Systems Integration Coordinator. These positions gave him extensive experience in engineering coordination, technical integration, and the management of complex shipbuilding activities.

In 2020, Andrea joined The Italian Sea Group S.p.A. as Technical Director, before progressing to Senior Project Manager in 2023. During this period, he managed large-scale shipbuilding projects, coordinating owners, production teams, technical offices, and suppliers from engineering development through to final delivery.

Throughout his career, Andrea has been particularly focused on improving project visibility and decision-making through practical project-control tools and performance dashboards. His experience delivering technically demanding projects while maintaining customer satisfaction, schedule compliance, and commercial performance provides a strong foundation for his role at Camper & Nicholsons.

Outside of work, Andrea enjoys technology, engineering innovation, boating, and continuous professional development. He is also an active volunteer with the Italian Emergency Medical Service, serving as a certified emergency rescuer, BLSD operator, and qualified emergency vehicle driver. This commitment has further strengthened his ability to remain calm under pressure, make timely decisions, and collaborate effectively in critical situations.
