North America
Luxury Yacht Charter Destination

From Alaska in the top north west and the coasts of Canada, to New England on America’s east coast, Florida, and California in the west, North America is a bountiful continent with vastly varied cruising grounds.

Alaska is both the largest and most sparsely populated US state.  This wilderness is known for its diverse terrain of mountains, forests and lakes, and its abundant wildlife.  By boat, popular locations include Tracy Arm, where you can see the North and South Sawyer glaciers - both of which may suddenly release chunks of ice into the water, Frederick Sound where humpback whales can be observed, and Red Bluff Bay which, with its mountains, waterfalls and glistening ice fields, is home to brown bears who feast on the salmon here every August.

On Canada’s west coast, Vancouver sits at the southern border of British Columbia.  This comparable metropolis is a great stop for a 24-hour dose of city life with culture-rich museums, elaborate Michelin-starred restaurants and a plethora of retail options that will leave your suite’s wardrobes bursting for the remainder of your trip.

Over on north America’s eastern side, the region of New England comprises the states of Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island. It's known for its Colonial past, Atlantic coastline, changing autumn foliage and forested mountains.  When visiting New England by yacht, there are many must-visit locations. Boston, in Massachusetts, is one of these. It’s the region’s hub and pre-dates the American Revolution, its Freedom Trail takes visitors to sites that were critical to the nation’s founding, and it’s arguably the birthplace of the America we know today.

Newport is widely regarded as the home of North American yachting.  Newport is a bastion of sailing and attracts superyacht travellers from around the world who visit its lively waterfront, ornate mansions, great restaurants and enjoy the wonderful coastal scenery.  Other highlights of the area include Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket. Nantucket was once the whaling capital of the world and as such, previously boasted a bustling international port. The Whaling Museum will capture your imagination for hours with its fascinating memorabilia, and there are many signs of Nantucket’s ancestral industry to be seen around the town.

New York has to be one of the ultimate city stop-offs with a yacht and is a fitting end to a cruise down America’s east coast.  The bright lights and world famous skyline frequently attract superyachts to the down-town hangout of North Cove Marina, where 75m high masts are dwarfed by hundreds of skyscrapers standing in excess of 180m.  North Cove Marina can host yachts up to 53m in length with a maximum draft of 4m. If your yacht exceeds this, then an alternative anchorage alongside the Statue of Liberty is a desirable second choice.

Another popular destination on America’s east coast, at the southern tip, is the state of Florida and its yachting hubs of Fort Lauderdale and Miami.  The sunshine state offers total American indulgence - big cars, big burgers, and big boats. Though favoured by the motor yacht fleet, the area is perfectly accessible to sailing yachts and offers a vibrant scene on shore with internationally-acclaimed art shows and art-deco architecture.

Sandwiched between the Everglades and North America’s only living coral barrier reef, Key Largo is a great destination to visit by yacht and is surrounded by waters perfect for diving and fishing.  The Everglades National Park is the largest subtropical wilderness in the United States and here adrenalin seekers can take to a high speed hovercraft to get amongst the alligators and crocodiles that live here side by side.

On America’s west coast, the state of California boats tinseltown glamour in Los Angeles, and America’s great city by the bay, San Francisco, has a multitude of sights to see.  Anchor in the bay in the shadow of the Golden Gate Bridge and step ashore to experience the bustle of Fisherman’s Wharf, take a stroll through the Golden Gate Park or visit Muir Woods on the northern shore (home of gigantic 1000-year old redwood trees), alternatively head north of the city and slightly inland to Napa Valley, California’s hillside wine region.
