Reminiscent of the ancient beauty of the Eastern Mediterranean, but equally influenced by the Western Mediterranean, the coast of Montenegro is a compelling world itself, particularly when explored by yacht.
Ancient harbours nestled between lush green interiors and the Adriatic Sea and the Bay of Kotor, resembling a fjord which is dotted with coastal churches and fortified towns, such as Kotor and Herceg Novi.
Situated between Corfu and Venice, with Croatia as a neighbour, Montenegro is sublimely positioned in some of the best cruising grounds in the world. Montenegro’s popularity has grown in recent years and Porto Montenegro is now an exclusive luxury marina, boasting five-star resorts, designer boutiques, desirable high-end properties and all yachting infrastructure one requires.
The charming island of Sveti Stefan, a 15th-century fortified village connected to the mainland by a causeway, is now a luxury 80-acre coastal estate. The uniquely atmospheric setting of cobbled lanes, handsome courtyards and serene sea views give this isle an inimitable charm and it is open seasonally from May to October.
Inland, Durmitor National Park is home to bears and wolves, as well as encompassing limestone peaks, glacial lakes and the 1,300m-deep Tara River Canyon, which slices dramatically through the mountainside.
For warm and dry weather, as well as quieter months, the best time to visit Montenegro is between June and September.
