Kefalonia is the biggest island of Eptanisa. It offers beaches which are both large and small with contrasting and striking scenery ranging from idyllic and calm to rugged and untamed. The island boasts both traditional villages and modern towns, such as Argostoli (the island's capital) and Lixouri, for a truly diverse experience. Other features of this island is its rugged terrain with it’s imposing Aenos mountains, with its rare black indigenous spruce, and distinct historic and religious monuments. The beaches, especially Mirtos, rank amongst the best not only in Eptanisa in the whole of Greece, putting them on a par with other revered favourites such as Porto Katsiki in Lefaks and Shipwreck in Zakynthos.
