Farm Pond is tucked along the northwestern edge of the Harthaven section of Oak Bluffs in Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts. This coastal pond was once known for supporting oysters, blue claw crabs and soft shell clams, but several decades ago it was completely closed to all shellfishing due to unhealthy nitrogen and bacteria levels. Luckily, The Vineyard Conservation Society and the Martha’s Vineyard Commission have been working alongside conservation groups to fully understand the area's needs and how to address the degrading water quality – a step in the right direction to turn Farm Pond and other waters surrounding Martha's Vineyard back to the healthy ecosystems they once were.
