Camper & Nicholsons is proud to announce the results of 2022 and shares its plans for 2023

It was a record-breaking year in the yachting industry, and Camper & Nicholsons remains a market leader with outstanding sales performance. Several factors drove the strong market through 2022. Firstly, the desire to own a home-from-home that doubles as a safe-haven, free from restrictions. Secondly, an increase in wealth as some economic sectors boomed in the last years.

2022 was another successful year for Camper & Nicholsons, across all departments, with 5.5 km of yachts managed in both charter and yacht management; 700 charters booked, making 5,416 charter days. The forecast for 2023 is very positive as we are already up 20% compared to last year. In 2022 Camper & Nicholsons was delighted to have sold and delivered notable yachts both second-hand and new build from some of the most prestigious shipyards in Northern Europe and Italy. The continuous sales performance is proven by its results and in the last 10 years Camper & Nicholsons had a 18.7% market share (yachts by length) of the industry’s top 5 brokerage companies.

Paolo Casani, chief executive officer at Camper & Nicholsons, comments on the extraordinary results, “2022 was a record year for our company in terms of both retail and charter management revenues. Globally, we managed 2.2 billion euros assets value in charter in 2022.”

Daniela Duck, new build division coordinator at Camper & Nicholsons, points out that industry new build sales in 2022 were up 35% from an already impressive 2021, as 186 luxury yacht projects were signed off compared to 120 the previous year, adding a note about the projects managed by C&N: “In the last 12 months, new projects have been delivered by and signed with Feadship, Baglietto and Mangusta among others.”

2022 has been an exceptional year in charter management with a wide selection of yachts being offered for charter worldwide. Jacqui Lockhart, Europe head of charter management explains, “As well as a busy summer season in the Mediterranean, several of our yachts were available in Qatar for the Fifa World Cup, whilst others were heading to the Caribbean and Octopus to Antarctica for a busy season there.

As well as the charter shows in Barcelona and Greece, some of the team travelled to Panama for a once-in-a-lifetime familiarization trip on Octopus, a discover trip on Aiaxaia, while our newest team member, Frederic Cretin, spent three weeks in Indonesia, inspecting our fleet there and checking the local infrastructure.”

Camper & Nicholsons reveals plans of its expansion in the Southeast Asia and the Mediterranean, and reinforcement of its position in the US

In 2022 Camper & Nicholsons announced its expansion in the Middle East with the opening of a new office in Dubai. C&N has big plans for 2023. Casani comments on the expansion and reasons behind, “The opening of a new office in Singapore will improve our reach and presence in the Southeast Asia. Our Hong Kong office opened its doors four years ago, and we seek to improve our presence in Asia.”

Other regions where Camper & Nicholsons plans for expansion are the Mediterranean, and further consolidation in the United States with investments to be done in those important areas.

“We are building our company for future generations. With our 240th anniversary book that gives a statement of the C&N heritage and an overview of our future, together with our clients, shareholders and customers”, confirms Casani.

Technology and its role in the future

Four years ago, following the leadership of the CEO and the long-term vision of its shareholders, Camper & Nicholsons became the first company in the yachting industry to invest into its digital and technical transformation. The objective was to modernize, optimize and consolidate processes and procedure on a group level, by designing and engineering products and software for each stakeholder. This allowed the group to become a tech and data-driven organization within the service industry, by delivering added value services to clients and partners. In 2022 C&N launched a new website and an innovative crew and compliance software, which have globally renovated the infrastructure of the yacht management department. Giovanni Alessi Anghini, chief technology officer at C&N comments, “IT infrastructure plays a big role in the company’s growth. Today we are not only envisioning the future, but we are executing it!”

Steve Bailet, group marketing director at C&N, explains the reasons of the success: “2022 was the year to take C&N at the forefront of the digital environment after years of tireless technological development, led by the expertise and vision of Giovanni Alessi Anghini and his team. The support given by our in-house specialists brings new innovative solutions with immediate effect to our long-standing clients and helping those looking for fresh ideas to have clear understanding of what yachting will be in the next 5 to 10 years.”

Staying on top of the industry in a constantly evolving world is an exciting challenge. 2022 saw the C&N team being dynamic and proactive towards the needs of our clients that stay the C&N priority, and we look forward to 2023 together. Marianne Danissen, group head of yacht management is anticipating the company success in 2023, adding that ‘the best is yet to come’.
