The Sustainable Yachting Network Gains Momentum

This initiative, launched in 2019 by the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, aims to reinforce and further the development of sustainable yachting, an initiative to which Camper and Nicholsons are excited to offer their support.

The Foundation took its first steps in this direction nearly 13 years ago with the launch of the Wood Forever Pact, which promoted the use of wood from sustainably managed forests.  The Foundation now strengthens this commitment to sustainability and environmentally conscious decision-making, with the creation of the Sustainable Yachting Network (SYN) alongside its founding partners the Yacht Club de Monaco, Monaco Yacht Show, Monaco Yachting Cluster and the RAMOGE Agreement.

The SYN intends to grow a wider network of committed stakeholders in the yachting industry – shipyards, designers, captains and crew, ship owners, equipment and raw material suppliers, service providers, federations, regulators, media and educators – to support them in their mission to promote the development of sustainable solutions and thereby help the sector on the whole in its transition towards a more modern and environmentally responsible industry.

The SYN has defined three areas of immediate action:  Organising activities and events to promote the implementation of innovative sustainable solutions; improving the knowledge of sustainable solutions and technologies, as well as establishing industry regulation; and supporting projects and programs that are developing innovative sustainable solutions in connection with the yachting sector and environmental protection.

The SYN has already been successful in hosting the Yachting Environment Symposium during the Monaco Ocean Week (March 2019) and another conference on sustainability during the Solar Energy Boat Challenge (July 2019).

In the coming weeks, through the SYN, the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation is expected to publish the fourth edition of the Best Practices for Eco-Friendly Yachting guide, which will be available for free on the SYN’s website.

Camper & Nicholsons continue to take a conscientious approach to the effect the yachting industry has on the environment, and encourages partners to be mindful of its impact on the delicate marine environment, advising all to work towards the best practices as advised by the Sustainable Yachting Network.
