About Richard Williams

Having sailed since the age of 12, Richard was involved in yacht racing for many years in the Irish Sea and English Channel. He graduated in 1995 from Newcastle University with a degree in Naval Architecture and joined the Maritime and Coastguard Agency in June 2003 as a policy manager. In 2005, Richard joined the MCA's Southampton marine office as a marine surveyor where he was responsible for plan approval and surveys, and was the lead auditor for ISM, ISPS and MLC. He also managed accident investigations and dealt with large passenger, research and cargo ship operators, advising companies and operators on compliance and international requirements. Richard has been involved in the survey and auditing of new build and existing large yachts for Ensign, the MCA's large yacht unit, where he was also responsible for the development of LY3 and supported the development of the passenger yacht code. In March 2015, Camper & Nicholsons was thrilled to add Richard's industry and technical knowledge to the YMD team.
